Restore unity, Rahul tells Chhattisgarh Congress | May 18, 2012, Delhi: Raipur, May 18 ( IANS) Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Friday threatened to enforce discipline if the party's top leaders of the party in Chhattisgarh did not come together immediately. Addressing Youth Congress activists and later members of the National Students Union of India, Gandhi dropped a clear hint that youths would be given prominence in the next elections in the state. The Congress, he said, would not allow Chhattisgarh to go the way of Uttar Pradesh where the Congress was routed this year mainly due to factionalism and a weak party structure. Former chief minister Ajit Jogi, one of the contenders for power in the state, ruled out any power struggle in the Chhattisgarh Congress. "There is no fight for leadership in the party. In the Congress, Soniaji is supreme. Rahul Gandhi to meet senior partymen on May 29 | May 11, 2012, LUCKNOW: Our first year has been marked by lots Our first year has been marked by lots of love from our readers out there. Love,
of course, is a many splendoured thing and some of our fond followers showered us
with what we’d like to fondly call “tough love”. We have been called FirstFart and Paidpost. If we got Rs 100 for every time we were called “paid journalists” we could have all retired to the Bahamas by now. Anyway everyone knows our content is ghost written by all kinds of luminaries from Digvijay Singh to Saif Ali Khan to even some staffer of Dharma Productions. Shah Rukh Khan might be at loggerheads with Aamir Khan, Rahul Gandhi might be head butting Narendra Modi but Firstpost, going by our commenters, manages to be on all their pay rolls at some point or the other. Someone should give just us an award for fostering Nat. TNN | May 11, 2012, , 2012, click more |

In Monday’s discussion on the Union budget, BJP leader Yashwant Sinha surprised many members on his own side by launching into high praise of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee even while tearing into the UPA government. Among other things, Sinha appears to have backed Mukherjee for elevation to the presidency, when party leader Sushma Swaraj explicitly ruled him out the other day. Rahul Why has Rahul given up on Youth Congress? | April 23, 2012, Rahul Gandhi has done the disappearing act, yet again. What’s new, one might ask. Well, nothing except one expected him to stop making cameo appearances during polls and be more hands on in the party’s organisational matters after the Uttar Pradesh assembly poll debacle. He was also expected to be more visible and change the impression that he is uncomfortable in communicating with the masses and the media. There were some hard lessons from the UP polls for Rahul himself and the Congress. Cong is paying the price for arrogance in Delhi | April 17, 2012, Another election, another defeat for the Congress! This time in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The only silver lining for the party – it couldn’t get worse. The grand old party, that’s been in power in Delhi since 1998, would be hoping that Delhi-ites have merely given vent to their anger at the MCD level. They must be thinking, good, we now have a better chance at the assembly level, when the level of anger would have reduced.
But these could well end up being arguments offered by the party’s spin doctors. Frankly, the time has come

Why Rahul-flation may get more virulent, helped by CA | April 02, 2012, Last Friday, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) put out a scary number: a4.3 percent current account deficit (CAD) in the third quarter (October-December) of 2011-12. For the April-December period, the CAD was a huge 4 percent of GDP. The whole year’s figure may, of course, be lesser (one hopes), as exports should pick up in January-March 2012. But don’t count on the figure being too much better. first post POlitics 02, April 2012 , click more |

Bye-bye Manmohan; Hello Rahul | April 01, 2012, Dramatic changes are sweeping across the Indian political landscape, with the top leadership of the Congress working overtime to convert the crises confronting the government , which is besieged on all fronts, into an opportunity to infuse generational change at the top and alter the political narrative to its advantage. Under one of the many scenarios being worked out, Manmohan Singh will likely step down as Prime Minister right after the Budget session of Parliament and be elevated to the post of President, making way for a younger leader – most likely Rahul Gandhi – to take over. first post POlitics 01, April 2012 , click more |

Sonia, Rahul and the wall of silence | March 30, 2012, With power comes accountability. Responsible leaders lead from the front. They accept responsibility. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi are India’s two most powerful politicians. Yet when there is a crisis, they retreat behind a wall of silence. Silence at such times is not the hallmark of a leader. Think: Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, Churchill, Kennedy. Consider now two recent crises involving the Chief of Army Staff, General V.K. Singh, and revelations by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on the coal mining scam. Both reflect poorly on the UPA’s political governance. Times of India 30, 2012 , click more |

| Rahul Gandhi – the road ahead? i | March 28, 2012, Y To say that the results of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections must have been a disappointment for Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi is an understatement. It must have hit him hard with the shock of the defeat still resonating in his ears. With the Congress not even doubling its tally in the polls but only adding six seats to its previous tally of 22 is hardly the kind of results Rahul Gandhi must have hoped for given the hype around his campaigning. Nonetheless, all that is over and done with. The question now is: Zee News 28, 2012 , click more |

UPA-2: With allies like these, who needs an Opposition? | March 15, 2012, As the UPA-2 government lurches from crisis to crisis, what are chairperson
Sonia Gandhi’s realistic options? The farcical shadow boxing with Mamata
Banerjee over the Railway Budget, the Uttarkhand Congress’ mini-revolt and
the DMK’s faux rage over the proposed United Nations resolution on Sri Lanka’s
human rights violations will eventually be settled with a fudge But for how much
longer can UPA-2 skewer its credibility in this manner? The supine reaction of the Congress “core committee” to Mamata’s endless blackmail – from FDI in multibrand retail and the Teesta accord with Bangladesh to the adolescent tantrum over Dinesh Trivedi’s Railway Budget – points to a deeper malaise. What worked for Akhilesh, didn't work for Rahul | March 13, 2012, Even though Congress as a party was not seen in Uttar Pradesh as any match to the Samajwadi Party, it soon became like a battle between the youth icons of the two parties. Yet' the difference remained. While Rahul was the privileged inheritor of a huge dynasty that had ruled India for decades' Akhilesh remained the ' dharti putra' of ' dharti putra' Mulayam Singh Yadav' who had not only roughed it out through the mill to rule Uttar Pradesh three times. nterestingly' Rahul's visit to homes of Dalits where he shared a meal or spent a night got tremendous publicity by not only the local media but also national and international media. Ashutosh on Anna: for Rahul, the UP writing was on the wall | March 12, 2012, Anna had made a solid dent in Rahul's image. New York Times wrote on 28 August 2011, 'For Mr Gandhi, the crisis interrupted what was widely assumed to be his own coming out as the new leader of the Congress . . . Instead, Mr Hazare upended the political landscape and Mr Gandhi disappeared for days before his speech in Parliament.' There can't be a bigger setback for Rahul Gandhi than losing UP. He has staked a lot on his success there. I think this may well decide his chances of succeeding Manmohan Singh as PM. This also explains why every change or shift in the political landscape is carefully analysed. IBN 7 Politics 12, March 2012 , click mor |
